Hello friends, it's Press Tent Dave here with a brand new bi-monthly feature for the Realistic Golf Tour called "Keeping it REAL with Press Tent Dave". Each issue will feature an interview with one of the members on tour to find out more about them and we'll end up with some trivia questions. Hope this will be enjoyable and a must read for everyone on tour.
So without further ado let me introduce to you my very first guest who is the founder of this great site Matt Lampitt also known as Matt10
Welcome Matt it's an honour and a privilege to have you here today.
Thanks alot Dave, great to finally meet the man behind the mic in person.
You're too kind Matt, ready to get this started?
Absolutely Dave, bring it on.
Tell us about your family.
I have a wife named Sarah and 2 boys. Ahndrew is turning 2 in July, and his brother Ahlex is a month old.
What song was your first dance to on your wedding day?
Pretty much nothing manly to say here other than “Today” by Joshua Radin.
Where abouts do you live or were raised?
I was raised all over the world. Born in Indonesia, grew up there, Egypt, Thailand and have lived here in Kansas for 15 years.
Do you have any pets?
We have a yorkshire terrier, his name is Jack McCoy - the lawyer from Law & Order.
What is the meaning behind your username?
My name is Matt, and 10 is my favorite number
What bought you to RGT?
A chance to relive my old Clambakers (TW 08 PC) days on tour. I never won a thing, never really shot well, but it was the best representation of the real sport I try to play. From there, it was about just making it happen, and worry about members joining afterwards.
What is your favourite thing about RGT?
The members. We have regulars now, and it’s great to see the conversion from arcade gamers to sim gamers. I’m all about that sim, it’s disturbing how obsessed I am about sim. Lol.
Who is your biggest rival in RGT?
The man himself, Isureaper31. He and I shoot about the same scores, he owes me almost 30 Red Lobster biscuits though. It’s an American thing, Dave.
What is your first and best memories of golf?
In 2006, after some stints at pro soccer, I realized I couldn’t play at that level anymore, so I decided to focus on golf. Problem is, I’m a perfectionist, but I’ll never forget the first time my dad and I got to play the Thai Country Club (in Thailand), and he was playing so bad that he hit a coconut tree direct to the left of him, and the ball screamed back in my direction. That was a fun day.
Who is your favourite golfer of all time and current player?
Tiger Woods. I know it’s cool to hate the guy, but if anything about me, is that I don’t follow the crowd - and hating on the World’s most iconic player of all-time is not me. Current player is still Tiger, I love watching him, you root for the guy because he’s part of your past and you hope that he improves, to get back to where he was - if not better.
Whats the best shot you've ever seen?
In person, I haven’t seen that many great shots actually. I do recall my first ever eagle on a short par-5, the 2nd shot was from 180 out, down-wind, and I managed to hit an 8-iron (usually goes 145 carry), that ended up 2 inches short from falling in for an albatross.
What is your real life handicap?
This reminds me I forgot to put it that 99 I shot on Sunday. With that said, an abysmal 15 HCP. When I started playing the game, I was down to 5 HCP, what the hell happened?
What set of clubs are in your bag?
Mizuno MP-33 blades (7-PW) and MP-30 (4, 5 and 6 iron). I love Mizuno clubs, my wallet hates them.
What is your favourite course to watch and/or play in real life?
I love watching Augusta of course. To play, I like my home course rotation of Overland Park Golf Club and St. Andrews Golf Club here in Overland Park.
What is your favourite course played in The Golf Club?
Oh, man. There are so many to choose. One that sticks out is The Tumbledowns at Moorcroft that was actually scheduled to be on Tour, but the XB1 guys framerate wouldn’t even get close to be able to play it. It was created by Darren Clark, and it’s by far, one of the best courses I have played.
What would you do to improve The Golf Club and/or RGT?
The Golf Club needs a better way to search for courses by certain filters. I used to hate the swing mechanics and animation, but just lately I’ve been looking to incorporate it into my own swing, lol.
For RGT, we need to get more member focused. The trend has been that new members join, then quit once they realize it’s too sim for them, so I had treaded carefully in asking for help. I have tried to do a lot on my own, and it’s come well under par (or over par?) as a result. I’ve recently allowed more involvement in the operations and decision making by members, and it has led to some great improvements and overall participation. Something that will take it to another level will to get the website designed and automated. At the moment, using Google sheets is what works best with the HTML5 editor for Wix (quick and easy), but I would love to not have to manually add members everytime without delay.
What are your other favourite sports?
Golf, Soccer and Football in that order. I do love Soccer, it was my sport for so long, but I only follow players, not necessarily clubs.
Which teams do you support?
I am still finding a true club to support (other than SportingKC for the MLS) in the premier league. I used to follow Fulham only because of Clint Dempsey. Then I’d follow Sunderland for Altidore, and West Ham when Spector was there. Even watched Everton quite a bit when Donovan had his loan spell. If there was a true team that I follow, it’d be Aston Villa, as I enjoy a lot about the club, the tradition and man, that pitch is gorgeous.
Whats your best sporting memory?
Scored a wallop of a goal in college. It was a first time, half volley, after the CB had cleared it straight in the air. I managed to hit it on the ‘up’ and the ball swerved outside the post, curving back in for an upper 90 goal. The added joy for the goal was 1. it was the winning one and 2. it was against a college that had rejected my application to attend.
Whats your worst sporting memory?
Jose Luis Chilavert and Paraguay losing against France in 98. Laurent Blanc, I hate you. Chilavert is my favorite player of all time, and he would have been the first keeper to score a goal in the World Cup as he tended to take penalties and free kicks.
What was the 1st computer/console you had?
I can’t remember computer, but console was a Nintendo - played Mario just like everyone. I do remember I got into computers and gaming because of FIFA 2003 on the PC. In that game, if you didn’t have the right graphics card, you would not be able to see the player’s numbers on their backs. So I got my first graphics card and could see player’s numbers on their back. That set me off on the crazy train of realism and sim gaming that you see now.
What was your first and best golf video game you ever played?
Tiger Woods 2008 PC.
Whats the 1st car you ever owned?
1999 Ford Escort
What was the first music album you ever bought ,favourite as well?
The Offspring - Ixnay on the Hombre, and was my favorite
What channels are preset on your car stereo?
My relationship with the Man upstairs is important, so my car is my time for devotions. As a result, I have 4 presets of Christian Top 40, Contemporary, Gospel Preachings and Christian Indie; I also throw in some Top 40 and Oldies there.
Whats your favourite colour?
Blue.
Whats your favourite film?
I wear my heart on my sleeve, so I’m a bit of a romantic. I also had a huge crush on Gretchen Mol; so “Music From Another Room”, starring her and Jude Law.
Whats your favourite TV show?
So many shows, if I could nail it down to my favorite, it would be Curse of Oak Island. I am sucker for documentaries and mysteries. This show does that quite a bit.
Whats your favourite food?
I’m Asian-American, born in Indonesia, so my favorite food is called “Sop Buntut”; which is Ox Tail Soup.
Whats your favourite drink?
Cocunut Water/Juice.
Whats your favourite holiday/vacation destination?
I’m a homebody - a hermit almost - I like staying put. A vacation to me is staying home.
Last of all, any other interesting information about yourself you'd like to share?
I could seriously spend hours in front of the computer.
I have bought every work from home product out there, I know way too much about that stuff, and never applied any of it.
I am self taught in Adobe Photoshop, and love making TV graphics and website designs.
I studied IT, but work in College admissions. I love admissions and the drive needed for it, never a boring day.
Thank you very much Matt, a fabulous start for the series and I'm sure everyone enjoyed it as much as I did getting to know the man behind what makes all of this possible.
